First playing in Positive Agression in 1990, a Lincoln punk band made up of mid-teens, Brendan being the youngest at 11 years old. Brendan began playing shows at house parties, the Malone Center and local bars like Duffy's and The Edge (became the silk cafe, 9th st Basement) all before starting 7th grade. Was introduced to the Lincoln music scene by being taken around to local shows starting at the age of 4, first to a Baby Hot Line show at the legendary Brickyard, later witnessing the first Mercy Rule show at the Commonplace, now known as the Culture Center on the UNL campus around 1991.

The local music scene made up of Mercy Rule and his brother Bernie McGinn's band Sideshow among other bands, effectively changed Brendan's life forever. Attending shows at the Red and Black Cafe, bands from out of state such as Toronto's Phleg Camp and Washington D.C.'s Rain like the Sound of Trains, gave the not yet 13 year old direction and inspired him to continue playing guitar and writing music when the trend among peers was sports and rap music. One special show at the UNL Student Union with Sideshow and the world renowned Fugazi was especially inspirational and would prove to come full circle when Brendan's band Her Flyaway Manner would open up a show with Fugazi 10 years later in the very same room.

Over the years Brendan recorded local bands like punkers BoyCaught, GI Jill, with a 4-track and helped Mark Wolberg record the first Wasteoid LP, and went into the Mogis' Presto studio with Tie These Hands as well as Bright Calm Blue for releases on Divot and Level-Plane Records. Whether it be trying to assist bands with equipment issues, sharing touring contacts with fellow bands looking to perform out of town, setting up DIY punk shows in city parks or bringing in touring bands to perform at the CultureCenter while President of the Association of Independent Music, McGinn has strived to support Lincoln's music scene that has been such a huge part of his life.

Come to the Bourbon Theatre Friday, July 30th and enjoy local music and local beers!

What can one say about a force of nature? Can one call a waterfall an 'Asshole,' or affix a pricetag to a hummingbird? (In the hummingbird's case, one can, but only with tiny specialized tools.)

Such is Scroggins and Clarf. They have safely coasted on the heart-on-his-sleeve songwriting of Todd Clarf and the raw sex appeal of Leroy Scroggins for nearly thiry years- if you count all the time the band was broken up- and in the process, have groped the hearts of millions. Scroggins and Clarf have left an indelible mark on their legions of fans, the hegemony of the musical status quo and sheets at numerous La Quinta inns across the contiguous United States.

These two masters, joined by musicians of the highest caliber, and Kevin Tynsdale-Jung, are coming to take you on a journey. It might be a short journey punctuated by botched high-fives and repeated clearings-of-throats, and you might end up in a seedy part of town without your cell phone, but this shit is gonna MOVE you, baby. I mean REAL GONE. So get hip to the word, or something. Ah hell, I'm rambling- Who wants some cake?

In today’s scene, a laptop and keyboard are more then enough to propel a band from basement guitar heroes to the foreground of stardom? But still, we’re left guessing where’d all the music go? The sincerity and tone…the prowess and honesty? In a time when we’re searching for something bright, something gripping, something real; Shut Up and Deal brings just that with their latest release and sophomore album, “This One’s For Me.”

With thousands of copies of their previous EP sold, a spot of last year’s Warped Tour, national featured press and an MTV appearance all in one year, the guys had a lot to live up to. So they enlisted acclaimed producer Paul Leavitt (All Time Low, Senses Fail, The Dangerous Summer) to be behind the controls of their latest effort. What they came out with was a seven song EP that’s a striking showcase of the bands songwriting skills and ability to transcend genres.

Combining catchy melodies and sing-a-longs in songs like “Just So You Know” and “Sink or Swim” while keeping a melodic and honest tone in songs like “Someday, Somewhere” gives the record an identityof its own.

Armed with an undeniable work ethic and a new album, which is sure to turn some heads, the upcoming months show no signs of slowing down for the guys. The band will release their latest EP alongside the Vans Warped tour, which they’ll be a part of the entire summer.

Shut Up and Deal has only scratched the surface of what’s to come. With their major label mindset and undeniable DIY work ethic, you can be certain they won’t be one of the here today, gone tomorrow bands’ that we see come and go.

Be sure to pick up a copy of the bands new record on itunes or at a show and catch them all summer on this years Warped Tour.

Tucson, AZ-based blues-punk primitive Bob Log III first surfaced a member of the art-noise group Mondo Guano, later serving as one half of the duo Doo Rag. While appearing in support of Ween, Doo Rag percussionist Thermos Malling abruptly quit the tour, leaving Log to finish out the remaining dates as a solo act; wearing his now-trademark motorcycle helmet onstage for protection from crowds, he proceeded to hone a cacophonous, Delta blues-inspired noise distinguished by Latin-styled drum machine beats and vocals processed through telephone microphones. In the summer of 1998, Log signed to Fat Possum to issue his solo debut, School Bus; Trike, the second release in his ongoing "Vehicle Series, " followed a year later.

Farmer's first ever CD release, "Love Songs and Other Issues", 2007 and new release "Lovesick Blues", 2009. The new CD is full of standard blues songs from the likes of Junior Wells, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker, and Taj Mahal and orginals like title track, "Lovesick Blues" and "Big and Strong".

After a substantial career as an actor, filmmaker, and cultural activist, especially in the area of communications infrastructure for Native peoples and their communities, Gary Farmer turned to music.

"Been a long-time supporter of public radio, especially in and around rural and urban communities worldwide,” Farmer states.

He continues, “Comprised of entertaining content that furthers the prosperity of indigenous people worldwide, it's the best way to take back control of our own lives after years of colonial oppression and genocide. But in the end, the blues is the answer.”

FILM INFO

DEAD MAN
starring Gary Farmer & Johnny Depp "A visionary film! A metaphysical journey beautifully shot in sumptuous black and white."- J. Hoberman, Village Voice

"Moody, hilarious, and mystical! With great black and white cinematography DEAD MAN is a poignant lament for the coming of the white man to the west."- Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times

"Jim Jarmusch’s most ambitious picture to date! Like no western the screen has seen before."- Kevin Lally, Film Journal

Jim Jarmusch takes his quirky, uniquely modern sensibilities back in time, with this western black comedy about a city slicker (Johnny Depp) turned gunfighter, on the run with an enigmatic Indian buddy (Gary Farmer) in the Northwest wilderness. Set in the picturesque, lawless land of the Old West, DEAD MAN is the powerful story of a mild-mannered man who journeys to the outer reaches of native spirituality after becoming a notorious gunslinger. Johnny Depp joins Gary Farmer in an exciting, complex tale.
